True AES encryption can't be done dependably in the browser without shipping heavy WASM tooling, which would conflict with PDFDig's lightweight, no-server promise. We've marked this unavailable rather than offer weak or fake protection. It's tracked on the roadmap.
This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your file is read into this tab, processed on your device, and never uploaded to PDFDig or any third party. Closing the tab clears it from memory.

Why not just add a password anyway?+
A protection feature that's trivially bypassed would be misleading. We'd rather be honest: PDFDig only ships security features it can actually deliver in-browser.
