Why didn't my PDF get smaller?

Compression mostly affects images. Text-only PDFs may not shrink.

Updated May 10, 2026

PDFDig's compression re-encodes page content as images at a chosen quality. Documents dominated by images can shrink a lot. A clean, text-only PDF that's already small may not shrink — and can even grow if rasterized.

  • Image-heavy scans: usually large savings.
  • Text-only files: little or no benefit.

PDFDig shows the before and after size so you can keep the result only if it actually helped.
